Hi guys,
I only spoke just a few words of Japanese on my visits and had no trouble there.
It does depend on whether you are going as just a tourist or whether you want to speak to people there.
There are free dictionaries you can download but speech is another matter. I know when I have phoned Japan a few times, some of them have used translation programmes which are pretty good to communicate with me.
hmm I understand. But I think it might help to meet/communicate with locals better when it's needed
I've found an app called -snip-
[ This whole post seems created to come back and recommend own app... ]
Anyone else looking for language help, you can check out the . I've also used myLanguage and Jibbigo but not yet tested them on the road.
Incidentally, pronunciation is very important in Japan. You might think you are saying the words correctly but sometimes if you have the pronunciation wrong you will get blank stares and shrugs
