RTW January, 2014

Hey guys,
I'm a single female looking to do a RTW trip next January. I'm going to spend 2013 saving like crazy and I hope to be on a plane by the new year. I'm looking at starting off my trip in South America, by seeing Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina (in no particular order). I dont want to have a tight schedule, so I'm open to visiting other countries as well. From there, I'll be moving on to South Africa, and perhaps Kenya to do some volunteering for a couple of months. Then I'll be going to Australia for a month or so. From there, I'll be going to Bali, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos (also in no particular order). I figure SE asia should take about 3 months, so that I can see enough of the local culture. From there I'll be headed to India, where I'll spend 2-3 weeks before I head to Europe: Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Greece, Prague, The Netherlands, England, Ireland and finally Iceland.

Hello Katie,

I would be interested, I myself was in the process of planning virtually the same trip/places for the beginning of 2014.

Have you got any ball park figures for this adventure? As I have not yet even looked at this aspect.

Any information would be appreciated.

Kind Regards

Kevin

hey Kevin,
I just started looking at prices yesterday, and I was pretty much only looking at airfare. I was figuring I'd fly to venezuela, bus or train it to Brazil and get a small plane to Argentina. The flight to Venezuela from Toronto is about $1000. Hostels in that region are between $10 and $15 per night, based on my quick searches, but I also intend to use couchsurfing.org to keep accomodation costs low. I haven't looked at flights to Africa or from there to Australia, but I know that airasia flies from Australia to pretty much every SE asian country, and they're really cheap (i think it was $400 to Bali and $135 from there to Thailand).
Obviously, I still have a lot of research to do, but I'm hoping I can do the trip for $20,000.
Hope that helps!
- Katie
