East Coast/Sydney

Wanted some advice as to whether it is possible to travel down the east coast in about 3 weeks. I will have about a month to travel down from cairns and see Sydney before I want to fly onto New Zealand. So planning about a week to see Sydney and around that area. Just wondering if that's too short a time and I should put my flight back? Also anyone travelling down in October?

It's technically certainly possible, but you'll miss out on a whole lot of things and will probably feel rather rushed. I'd recommend indeed pushing back the flight to New Zealand (just as long as that doesn't go at the cost of any time in New Zealand, as I personally think New Zealand is much more interesting and worthwhile than anywhere in Australia), or picking just a single stretch of the east coast to do more in depth (for example Cairns up to Cape Tribulation, and then down to Mackay), and then flying to Sydney from there at the end. A week in Sydney sounds good though; I always say 5 days minimum, but with a week you can manage to fit in a bit more than just the highlights, and get a more thorough feel for the city.
