Silk Road cycling - suggestions on itinerary please

Hi, I'm going to China early September and planning on a silk road cycling tour - I'll be bringing my bike with me. I am planning a 9 day trip going Lanzhou – Zhangye - Wuwei – Dunhuang. If people have suggestions about the route or places to see on-route i would be very grateful.
couple of quick questions:
1. Based on the route, should i be able to find places to stay, or is it worth me taking a light-weight tent.
2. Will i need a sleeping bag anyway - are some of the places going to be a bit cold in September? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions or comments.

We did the China Silk Road cycling trip from Lanzhou to Dunhuang this May. We cycled for 10 days and used a local agent for transfers for some parts. I believe you will need 13 or more days if you plan to do the part from Lanzhou to Dunhuang on your own, see -snip-

Tent is suggested as you may not be able to reach the place with accommodation each day. The temperature drops a lot in the night and in September it may be 30 °F or even lower in the west like Dunhaung. So sleeping bag will be helpful.
