Hi all,
Hi all,
I’m not well travelled (at all) and am planning on taking off to Europe at the start of next year for 6-12 months on my own.
I’m a 25 year old Australian woman and just wondering if anyone could share their solo travel experiences (especially young females) and perhaps provide some tips?
Someone suggested I start with a Contiki Tour to "settle in" to travelling.
I have some family in London which is where I will be based.
Thanks in advance
Edwina
"Hi" Edwina you still have six months to go. Buy yourself a back pack a little one 30-35 litre
jump on a bus and go to another state stay in backpackers for a week and see how it goes
go home by train
Do this a few times and you will be itching to go abroad.
Train your self in your own country...........EASY...............Have fun.
Contiki is good but it is fully organised you will not learn backpacking skills.
Your journey starts at home. Enjoy your travels.
Much of the year there are lots of cheap flights as any easy way of getting around.
July and August are particularly busy months when the kids are off school so the prices of everything goes up, rooms fill up and there are crowds everywhere.
Do use caution, and watch out for petty thef, particularly at any tourist spot or on public transport where there are lots of people.
What weather you will get is anybody's guess. There was a weather summit in England last week and the forecasters admitted they don't have a clue as to the unusually cold and long winters, the poor springs and the bad, wet summers.
Thanks for the tips guys!
Dagobert - thanks thats the best advice ive had so far, what a great idea! I might look into leaving the state for a week by myself and see how I go!
THanks again!

Hi Edwina,
I am the same age as you and have traveled quite a bit by myself. At first, it is scary, but knowing people around the places you go to help. The fact that you have family in London helps! you have them there in case anything goes wrong...
I heard of Contiki and am actually planning on doing it, when i get enough funds for it...I would also suggest trying out Contiki if you are worried about traveling by yourself.
I do suggest going in a group to different countries before traveling by yourself as it may come as a huge culture shock to you.
Hope that helps a bit,
Hanny
safe journey..
There are some tips you should keep in mind if you are traveling alone. Just study about what local women are wearing where you are going and try to wear what they are usually wearing. This way you can avoid annoying attention towards yourself. Plan your daily visits each day and decide how to come get there and come back. Do not travel alone at night or quite areas, use taxi if it’s easy for you and also read as much as you can before traveling. Also one of the most important thing you should keep in mind is decide where you are staying, hotel, separate apartment which is cheap as number of holiday rentals are providing short term rental services.
