Hi Beth,
From what I've heard, they rarely check to see if you actually have the $5000 but it's probably best to have the money just in case, besides you'll need that money to support yourself until you find work out there. I'm saving up just to be on the safe side, I know what you mean when you say you want to be out there now though! Just out of interest, do you have an idea of what you want to do when you get out there?

Hey Dan
Thanks for your reply! It's just so hard to save, plus the extra for a return flight as I really don't want to book one!
When are you going? I just want to do a bit of sights and 'touristy' things for about a month then head over to Melbourne and find a job! What about you? Much planned?

No problem! I know it's hard to save, but it'll be well worth it in the end. I'm heading out there a couple months after you. Flying out from Gatwick on January 4th and landing in Sydney on the 6th. I've heard good things about Melbourne, I was planning on heading up towards Cairns after I've been in Sydney for a bit but nothing's set in stone, pretty much gonna take each day as it comes!

Beth I'm doing the same. I should have about 3k and I know lots of people that have been and they don't check. Where will you be Xmas/new year? X
Dan - that sounds amazing! Yeah, from what I've heard Melbourne is a brilliant city, great nightlife and good for travellers/backpackers. Yeah, you can't make too many plans I don't think because something will catch your eye every day I'm sure! Are you going alone? x
Beau657 - ah good! I know it's better safe than sorry but I guess if I don't manage to save it all it might not be the end of the world. Have you any contacts out there? I will hopefully be in Melbourne but like I said to Dan, can't plan too much because you don't know what's around the corner! What about you? When do you head out there? x
I'm going in November to Perth then Sydney for new year. I'm gonna leave it open after that because I think you meet people and make plans etc. why Melbourne? Do you know someone? I have a few contacts here and there.
I'm on Facebook /beckygreeneyes
How come you picked Perth? Is that just where you're flying to? I think so too, can't plan too much. Just like the sound of the city, heard great things, I have no contacts at all! I don't have facebook but I have twitter?
My mums cousin lives in Perth so I'm having a month where I meet him and his family and then going to Sydney for party time! I can't stay longer than 3 weeks in Sydney as its so expensive but then I'm wanting to travel north or south anyway. Not fussed where I just want to chill and see what happens. I've put my twitter link on my profile if you want to add me.
Yeah definitely! Melbourne and Sydney definitely seem to be the most popular starting points for most people. I'm not planning on spending more than a few weeks in Sydney anyway as it's expensive, probably just look to see the sights and move on. I'm travelling solo, like everyone else it seems! Got myself a hostel booked already, so hopefully I'll meet lots of new people and settle in quickly! X
