Airfare Prices

Greetings. I have been watching airfare prices from LAX to Warsaw and in the past 2 weeks they have gone up 100USD. The flights I am watching are for June 2014, and was surprised to see them increasing already. Anyone have any idea if prices will go back down at a certain time of the year and they will be cheaper for travel in June of 2014. Or should I purchase the tickets now and hope they don't go down. I know some sites have a price match, anyone have experience with this? Also how about flight insurance in case something happens between now and then?

Hi,
A friend of mine regularly checks flights between San Francisco and Warsaw and although you don't mention the price, I guess in general if the price is around 1,000 USD or even less, consider yourself lucky and book it. Maybe LAX is slightly cheaper than SFO because of competition.
Also check options for flights to other European cities if (much) cheaper and consider taking cheap flights with for example Wizzair, Ryanair or Easyjet onwards. Could save you hundreds of dollars.
Also, in general flights are cheapest between 3 months and 6 weeks before departure as a general rule. Also consider checking deals or sign up for newsletters with companies like British Airways, KLM/Air France (they have world deal weeks again in January, check them out then) or maybe LOT as well. And try to keep on eye on prices daily! As sometimes flights tend to get cheaper when booking during the week too. Not kidding.

Check about the subject as well.
Have fun!
Michael

Thanks Michael,

You are correct the price was at 940USD and now 1070-1100USD, so that is right on. I checked some other cites and they were significantly more 1400USD to Vienna or Prague, that is why I thought I'd choose Poland for the two of us I could save a total of 600.

Thanks for the link to the article as well!

Also try and check for comparisons. You could subscripe to their daily ticket alert to see how prices go.
And they have a great calender option to see the lowest prices per date.
For example 9-23 june now is 725 euro, that's about 1,000 USD.

The Polish international carrier LOT is in deep financial trouble right now, and this fact could be influencing all ticket prices to that country. Should they go out of business, that would mean a real shortage of flights - meaning higher prices due to demand.

I just read at airliners.net that LOT is cancelling service to several European markets from Warsaw.

Thanks all, just snatched up our tix for the trip. 1033USD RT on Lufthansa with the connector on LOT. Hopefully they stay in business long enough. If not, I did go for the cancellation/interruption insurance.
