India - Christmas for 3 weeks?

ErolGirl has indicated that this thread is about India

Hi,

You will get a summer like sun in most parts of the Western/ Southern India. You can spend your time on the sandy beaches of the Arabian Sea/ Bay of Bengal or travel across the countryside to take a look at the heritage of the local places.

Some places which I can suggest :

1. Goa - Some of the best beaches in India facing the Arabian sea, with a lot of added fun. However it is not the most economical and is quite crowded during the season. You can go to South Goa if you want less crowds.

2. Kerala - God's Own Country and immensely beautiful. It has everything you can look for in nature, awesome beaches, backwaters, greenery, small hill-stations, natural reserves. Strongly recommended.

3. Pondicherry - On the eastern side facing bay of Bengal, it has a French legacy, some of which lives to this day. You can expect some quality relaxed time there.

4. Hampi - The lost city of the Vijaynagar Kingdom and a great place to be if you want to take a glimpse of the Indian heritage. Can be quite warm even in winters.

There are many more places like Daman-Diu, Beaches and Forts in Maharashtra and the natural beauty of Karnataka. If your preferences were a little more specific, I could say some more.

Happy to help

Yes, all these places mentioned by Purus will be great. I suggest you to go to Goa, I was there in December 2011, spent Christmas and NYE in Goa, it was lovely.
You get summer like weather even in December, and the girls relax at the beaches in their swimsuits with ease and with no trouble.

Yes, I forgot to mention. Where ever you go, please stay safe, do not trust strangers easily, do not fall for any false promises by touts, check your drinks to make sure they arent spiked, avoid going out alone late in night .. etc ... our confidence in the safety of our nation (for girls) has been a little shaken up lately.

Yes, safety of a single girl travelling is important.

Goa during Christmas will be expensive , may be you can start there and stay for 3 days or so.

Kerala tour followed by Tamilnadu and Karnataka may work well for you . Beaches , heritage , food , hill resort like Munnar , temple town, forest, yoga classes. etc may interest you for a 3 week tour. North India will be cold in December.

Check www.increbile india.org.

check for conducted tours run by Kerala tourism and Tamilnadu tourism.

Hope you can work out a good tour plan. All the Best

Sounding great! I will have a good look at all the suggested places, a little tour down the Goa/Kerala coast would be lovely...

I would more than likely be going with a male friend, so hopefully not as much of a target. Such a shame, I didnt realise it was as bad in India for such things!

Hi again! I have found some flights, return to Goa that are suitable for me...

If I was to spend about 3 days over Christmas in Goa, and travel down the coast towards Kerala, for 2 weeks, and then travel back to Goa for the return flight, any idea of costs for the travelling and acommodation? (I have no idea with regards to India prices!) I am willing to stay in basic beach hut style places, and travel cheaply....

Suggest itenieary to make the best of Your time available is

14 Days North and West

Delhi; Amritsar; Agra; Jaipur; Udaipur; Jodhpur heading towards West
i.e Mumbai, Aurangabad ( Ajanta and Ellora caves)

(You can research and choose from the above based on your liking and interests)

Last 7 Days of the journey to GOA to relax and chill out...

Hope it helps...

Cheers and Have Fun!!!

After looking at various places, I thought that maybe South Goa for my visit would be best....

Thinking Palolem/Agonda for Christmas > Moving south towards Gokarna and the surrounding beaches > Udupi

Any suggestions on this??

Any ideas for NYE? Would be nice to have a party to go to....

Hi all

I have time off work over Christmas, and I really want to get away to somewhere lovely and warm! (the UK can be so grim!!) I have been wanting to go to India for a few years, and was wondering if it would be worth spending 3 weeks there over Christmas? How much would I realistically get to see? And does anyone have any itinerary suggestions for me?

Or does anyone have a better idea?? I'm struggling for summer sun ideas....Low budget if possible! haha

Hey.

I am actually going to India three weeks over christmas time. I am spending them volunteering. I been there few times before, and it is a really nice place. It is located in the Southern Rajasthan. India is alot about experience the culture and its people, which I feel you do in this project. Maybe this is something for you? if so let me know, so I can tell you much more.
