It seems like you already have your mind set on Europe.
Pick somewhere that appeals to you - what attracts you to Europe that doesn't attract you to anywhere else?
Research. Research. Research.
As for finding jobs, it's a question I've seen hundreds of times already on this forum and I've not been around long! Jobs are easy to find if you know where to look and you're not fussy. Bar work and waiting on can be found just about everywhere - every country has bars and restaurants!
I don't know the exact rules for Malaysians, but I'd assume you'd just fall under the rules of the , which only allows you to stay in continental Europe for a maximum of 90 days out of any possible 180 day window. Staying for several years would not be possible.
As far as I know, there's no European WHVs available for Malaysians (there used to be one for the UK, but that was abandoned a few years ago, and I haven't seen anything about it being reinstated). That means the only way you'd be allowed to work in Europe is on a very hard to get work visa.
(Western) Europe is also quite a bit more expensive again than Australia.
Hi JY_wong
I myself is Malaysian, and yes Sander is right in that Europe is a tougher destination for us Malaysian to travel and work as there isn't much WHVs arrangement between Malaysia gov and EU countries (UK used to have it, until UK Immigration decided to stop it as Sander pointed out).
However, I had friends that actually 'work' while traveling in Europe. Strictly speaking, the 'work' nature is actually as a tour guide for tourist group, thus self-employed and is not illegal (i.e without working permit). He would be there to guide the tourists over the countries, explain the history and culture, and coordinate the overall tour. It is not an easy job, as you would have a wide scope from performing administrative tasks to being a host toward your clients. But it is nevertheless an option if you plan to have long term 'work' over Europe.
Personally, New Zealand would be the best first stop for budding MY backpackers and thus I would be there this coming October. =D
