Do i skip Cairns ?????

Hey Everyone,

Sounds like a plan!

Great advice that hahaha !!!

Ha ha as its getting closer we are constantly analysing our plans lol!!! I have changed mine a few times and not going to be in Sydney now for Christmas Day as it felt a bit rushed!!

What were you going to do in Cairns, go up to Daintree and Cape Tribulation? You're right about the travelling as some of my Greyhound journeys are 12 hours!!

Have you thought about getting an internal flight for the last bit, go to Cairns, travel down and then fly from Brisbane to Sydney (just a thought, im sure you've already looked into it). Its £110 to do this on Christmas Eve.

Ha ha i dont really have a plan i set in stone. iv got my goals to get to certain places but me and my friend are winging it. gonna just head east at our pace and hope we reach cairns. only planned bit is christmas. have not sorted out a hostel for when we arrive lol. But seems as we only got six sleeps its on the urgent to do list along side our travel insurance... just wing it izt85 :D

Wow 12 hours.. I literally cant get my head around the shere amount of travelling thats gonna be involved never mind the flight out there. So im not even thinking about it ha !

I was just gonna go there as i was told it was the best place to do the Great Barrier Reef but if you can do that further down and its somewhere i can fly to from Melbourne then i thought i'll just fo that..

But thats what i was asking really if there is anything else particularily that i should be wanting to do / see..

Thats not a bad shout to be fair.. May look into flights. Not sure why but i see that as cheating for some reason lol !!

How much is the Greyhound ?? i budgeted it to be about £300/400 is that right ??

Haha your right.... Im a bit of a planner so i cant help but working things out in my head.

Its more of a time thing tbh cause i've got so little time and so much i want to do so i've got to squeeze as much out of it as i possibly can

Well I have been a bit unsure as to whether to book things or not, I was hoping to travel with the "go with the flow attitude" but lots have people has stressed that its peak season in Dec with school holidays. So far ive booked my internal flight from Sydney to Cairns and booked my hostel over Christmas!!

Yeah, the Greyhound pass is around $390 and that's from Cairns to Sydney hop on/off but only travelling south (or vice versa)

haha exactly the same. Im determined to keep it my original plan of booking my first few nights in Melbourne and last week in sydney but is is hard not to go ahead and plan it out..

Cheers for the link i'll check that out..

How much are you planning on taking for spendign money as your going for a similar amount of time as me ?

I'd go to Cairns and do an outer reef trip from there, the coral is much better than around Hamilton Island unless you can go for an outer reef trip from there (I'm not sure if that's possible). When I went to the Whitsundays (Hamilton Island is in the Whitsundays) the snorkelling/diving was done around the islands and the coral isn't as mature as on the outer reef, also there weren't turtles or as many fish. As Jackie said, you can go to the Daintree and Cape Tribulation from Cairns, but you can also check out the boulders and the Atherton tablelands.

3-4 weeks will be enough to do the coast from Cairns to Sydney and visit the Whitsundays and a tour of Fraser Island.
