Round the world with STA Travel

Hi,

Hi,

i booked a RTW ticket in March this year with STA and actually fly out on the 16th. As far as being cheap i''m not too sure, i think they are competitive though. I went into the cambridge branch and the guy we booked it all with was really help, knew his stuff and was generally helpful. They make the RTW to suit yourself but also realistic as well be because you have to fly into big hubs (E.g. bangkok, Singapore, Santiago etc)

I know there is a debate between booking a RTW ticket and being restricted by it and just winging it, but what i found good with STA is that for £50 extra you can get up to 3 flight changes anytime and during one change make as many changes on your trip as you want. also for £80 you can do unlimited changes. Thats the main selling point i think cus who knows what exact date they want to fly to their next destination 6 months in advance or where they will be?

Hope thats helpful, What places are you looking to go to on your RTW?

Dom

Hey Dom,

Thanks for your comments, they are certainly useful for someone thinking about the best options.

What RTW trip have you booked? Not long now, I bet you can't wait!

The one that caught my eye is the jumbo Jetsetter package, but with Thailand being my number one destination I would need that tailored in somehow! I will be heading into my local store (Liverpool) on the weekend to enquire more, but its good to get people's opinions first!

That unlimited changes option sounds perfect and very affordable!

How customised can they tailor your trips? Do you have exact dates as to when you fly? Do you have to sort your own transfers?

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm travelling around Asia next year and have done all the planning individually I.e where I'm going and when but I rang up sta (don't plan on the website) and had a lady who was so helpful, i was on the phone to her several times, and she stayed late for me to sort everything, 5+ flights around Asia and between there and England cost me £1800 which was so much more cheaper than anywhere else. For me STA have saved me so much money and were so helpful and gave much so advice.

My RTW i booked is from London - Mumbai, then singapore-bali, bali- sydney, sydney to santiago, then finally Rio de janiero back to london. I got the 3 flight changes package with that it is cost £1900.

i had to book the second flight myself from new dehi to bangkok cus apparently with RTW tickets you can only pick one stop off in one continent.

When you book the ticket you have to pick your first flight which you cant change, and then put dates in place for all the other flights. I've given estimates of when i will be leaving each region, but plans change so as long as you give them 24hours notice you can change your flight date/date if you buy the flight change thing.

Transfer and all that isn't included, just literally the flights, but the good thing with a RTW ticket is you fly with top airlines (E.g. British airways, Quantas etc) so free alchohol/food on your trip! BONUS! ha

For what it is worth when I booked a round the world ticket three years ago I went with Flight Centre - Round the World experts, and could make as many changes to my flights as I wanted for no cost.

STA is the largest student travel agency in the world, so they are certainly reliable. They also do get access to rates that no other travel agencies get, but increasingly airlines as giving access to other similar agencies. That said, the chance you find the same route elsewhere for much cheaper is going to be small, unless someone at STA has made a mistake.

You could also check out Flight Centre and an online only agent like just to be sure. Both are reliable companies that focus mostly on RTW flights.

I have booked with STA and I'm leaving at the end of December. I literally walked in and said I wanted to do North America, South America, New Zealand, Australia and parts of Asia and they immediately came up with an around the world trip that was perfect. I got the unlimited changes bundle and it cost around £2200. I also keep suddenly deciding I want to go to more places like Fiji etc and they are happy to change the flights and help out. They seem experienced and friendly.
