Hey,
It's a tough call... I'd prefer to just travel with one if I could, but I can see the limitations of taking just the tablet in terms of how you get movies onto it if you don't have a computer you can sync it with. The laptop allows you basically to do everything though, the only downside being it's just less practical on buses, but depending on the size, I'd probably take just the laptop if I had to. Being able to get the photos off a camera and onto a decent sized harddrive (external or otherwise) is an advantage for travellers that the tablets just don't have yet in any meaningful way.
Its up to you but i've chosen to just take a tablet with an extenal harddrive. Laptop to me also was a good idea but its a bit riskier and i think i would always be worried about it getting broken or stolen. Most hostels will have computers and there will be hundreds of internet cafes so can just plug in your SD card to them to upload pictures.
Thank you for the comments,
Im still debating on which to take. I have about 3 months before I go, but like to get stuff in order and not leave it to last minute.
Uploading the photos to an online database would be good and I could always plug in my extenal hard drive to a computer in a hostel, and then put my SD card in and just transfer the files from the one to the other.
Without taking my laptop is would save a lot of space and worry but I love my music and need to keep it up dated :D Maybe il make one of my other friends to take thier laptops and il just steal it now and again.
Thank you guys
Take care x
I'm off to Asia for three and a half months next month and as well as my laptop, I'll be taking along a Note Book. I could get by without the laptop.
I have a base so the laptop will stay there when travelling but I'll keep the Note Book with me at all times.
It's just over two pounds weight, has a 10.1 inch screen, 320 GB hard disk, 1.86 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM and a very long battery life. And an external drive as well as flash drives. And of course wifi or cable internet.
It allows reading books, listening to music and watching films while travelling about as easy as any portable device and it recharges quickly unlike the four hour Kindle with it's poky little six or seven inch screen.
Tablets are not cheap and not as good as a PC in my opinion. Their bonus is that they are light to carry, and thin. However unlike the Note Book or laptop, they do not have a hard metal cover to protect their screen when not in use.
