America's East Coast - Foodies!

Hello everyone!

Best internal transportation cities in the US would have to be (1) New York, (2) San Francisco, (3) Chicago, (4) Washington, D.C., and to a lesser degree (5) San Diego.

Best cities for food (in order (my list): New Orleans, San Francisco, New York, Boston and/or Chicago (tie for 4th-5th place), Austin (Texas), Memphis, Kansas City, Seattle, Miami, Atlanta.

Based upon this, I'd say go to New York, San Francisco, and Chicago. Also, I'd start my trip by going to New Orleans and heading straight to the French District--and then walking around--since all the great restaurants are either here or nearby (not counting Commodore's Palace, which you might want to take a taxi to--either that or just go to K-Paul's instead, which is in the French District).

Just this morning, I heard some people on the radio here in San Francisco talking about the fact that this year's Superbowl (American football championship) will be in New Orleans. Their comment: If you haven't been to New Orleans, it has to be on your "bucket list" (things one must do before they "kick the bucket")--and they suggested to go there either for the Superbowl--or for Mardi Gras (American version of Carnaval). Personally, I prefer going there in the springtime near spring break--but it will be absolutely nuts then, so going for your foodie trip now might be a good idea. Enjoy.

P.S. Let me recommend some places in these cities:

New Orleans--K-Paul's, Commodore's Palace

San Francisco--(reasonably priced ones: Swan Oyster Depot, Zuni Cafe, Empress Palace, The Helmond, Calzone), (more expensive: Farallon, Cliff House) (over the top: Gary Danko, Michael Mina)

New York: Peter Lugar Steak House, Mesa Grille, Ferrara's Bakery in Little Italy, John's Pizzeria (260 W. 44th street) (near Times Square)

Chicago: Frontera Grill, Ann Sather, Gene & Georgetti

Boston: Don't know enough about Boston to recommend one or two special places--but just focus on fish and lobster and you'll do okay there.
