According to the national weather service (NOAA), the forecast for Death Valley for tomorrow is 130 degrees Fahrenheit (54.44 degrees Celsius). (It hit 129 F there today.) There is also a chance that the temperature could go as high as 132 degrees F on Monday (July 1).
I'm so glad I'm up in cool 90 °F Portland - went to the fountain at the PSU campus to cool off today
(why do people live in Death Valley, or any desert area in summer, beats the hell out of me?)
Las Vegas set a record for the dates, June 28 & 29. Old record was 114 (45.6), it hit 115 (46.1) both days. Our all time high of 117 (47.2) maybe broken tomorrow. Forecast to be 118 (47.8). We can only hope! Be nice to witness the all time high record. However, it is a DRY heat. Very similar to standing in front of the Gates of Hell.

Well, the record was not broken yesterday. It was a only a balmy 128 degrees F for the high--and today's prediction is for a cooling trend (127 degrees F).
For those who may be wondering what it is like to visit Death Valley when it is this hot, there is the following story, which was posted two days ago

As one who has been there when it was only 115 degrees F, I think the comment about it being "as if someone is blowing a hair dryer set on the high heat setting in one's face" and needing to wear "oven mitts to avoid burning one's hands on the steering wheel" very descriptive and spot on.
P.S. I feel for you vegasmike6 and hope the weather cools a least a bit in Las Vegas soon. (It did hit the 117 mark, which tied the record).

We should all say a prayer for those brave firefighters lost in Arizona yesterday - heat and fire can be deadly! Losing a home to fire is one thing, but human life is precious.
Agreed, Daawgon. Terrible tragedy for the families and the town (Prescott, AZ).
Well, now they are saying it hit 129 yesterday (or was that the day before?). In any case, that means the June record was tied.

Either way, too hot for me--and sad for the firefighters and other individuals who have died as a result of the high temperatures.
