Getting around Madagascar

oletraveller has indicated that this thread is about Madagascar

Hey

There are a pretty good system of 'taxi brousse' minibuses on most of Madagascar...

Hardest part to travel is the north east where many roads are only served by a few 4x4 a day/week depending on the season... The northeast is especially difficult to travel in during the raining season (lasting all of the European summer)..

Note that you can't travel all the north east coast north-south as machined vehicles are forbidden in Masoloa National Park.. Instead you'll have to do a five day track (with guide and porter) through the park...
Other parks in the rest of the country have the same limitations, but are a lot easier to bypass... Especially in the southwest...

Everywhere else you should have a fairly easy time as long as you remember TIA!
(This Is Africa - and nothing will ever go as smooth as you'd imaging)

Cheers,

Hello,
As a local, I can tell you that the better way of traveling in Madagascar is to take your own hired 4WD car because that will allow you to get deep inside the country because roads are bad, and because if you only use Taxibrousse(the local buses) you'll surely have problem to reach most of important site to visit as most of parks and reserves are out of the main road(off road)
for more information about examples of itinerary ,you may email me privately
