Hey I'm Steve,
Hey Steve,
I'm also going for a working holiday and starting in Sydney in September! So excited/nervous cause I'm going it alone too and it's my first time travelling!! I've found the best and cheapest way of getting an 'open ended' flight is through an actual agent rather than through the airline directly.. I think my return will be booked for a year in advance but its very cheap to change the date if needed, as opposed to open ended which could be an option? (I haven't booked yet). Are you planning on travelling around Oz at all or staying in Sydney for the year?
Michaela
Hi Michaela
Yeah think I heard that booking a return flight is a good way to go and then just change the date, but weren't sure whether there was anywhere that did open returns for less. Which agent you thinking of using?
I know what you mean its a little bit daunting thinking about travelling alone. Am going to travel around a bit while am there, but haven't really got any plans set out at minute, just going to see what happens when I get there. But there are a few cities that I would like to see. How about you? You planning on travelling around a bit? What you thinking of doing for work?
Steve
Hey Michaela and Steve
I'm also looking to go to Australia in September, although I haven't sorted a visa or flights yet. Just finished my degree, so trying to secure a job first before I arrange anything, just so I know that I can definitely afford to go.
Going it alone too, but no plans as of yet as to what I'm going to do there. Was thinking maybe a bit of travelling around but would quite like to get a flat in maybe Sydney or Melbourne and settle for a bit. Might try and get a car while I'm out there too, to do some road trips, although I'm not sure yet
I'm pretty nervous, as I've never done this before! was going to go with a friend but she recently dropped out!
Robyn
Hi Robyn
Nice to see someone else thinking along the same lines as us, and going for it in September. Think everyone is nervous if they are travelling alone, I know I am, but the way I look at it is that it is also a great opportunity to meet new people and I can't wait!
Do you think you'll have stuff sorted out soon like Job, flights and Visa? I know thats when it started getting a lot more exciting for me. What work are you thinking of doing out in OZ? I'm thinking possibly farm work/ fruit picking in order to try and a second WHV.
Steve
Hi I'm Becky and I travelled alone in Oz.
Going it alone is defiantly the best thing I ever did, so much freedom and you meet alot more people. Lots of people are doing the same thing.
For fruit picking its best to be in the place and to go try and find your own. Please dont sign up to 'harvest hopper'! rip off and also watch out for some working hostels.
Dont worry much about getting a job at this stage, it is easy, just stay super positive and friendly
The Aussies are very chilled out.
Hope this puts your minds at rest.
Also here's my blog if you wanna read of adventures http://beckyswonderingheart.blogspot.co.uk/
Peace
Becky
Nice one Becky, thanks for the brilliant advice. I will make sure to read your blog, to see what may lie in store. So are you still in Australia, or have you finished travelling? If so you planning on going back at all?
Since you've been there and done it, what would your advice be on flights? Also any other nuggets of help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Steve
Hi guys
The flight i have is an open return with Singapore Air and it includes a stop over on the way back in Singapore and was £1190. Not really sure if that helps or what your budget is if you have set dates it will be cheaper for sure but i made sure i got one that was fully flex at both ands and in Singapore.
hope that helps with the flights
Adam
Cheers Adam, yeah that is helpful in terms of giving me a figure for how much an open return costs. Think that might be a bit pricey for me, and I've heard that its fairly easy with certain airlines and only costs about £50 to change a return flight, so reckon I might just aim for the cheapest flight with a return and then just change it. Thanks for the advice though and giving a yardstick to measure against. When you going to Oz? You starting in Sydney?
Steve
Hello Steve and every one who is arriving in Sydney in September!!
I am also going in September and have booked my flights through Emirates.. cost me £980 which is for a return in March but I can change it so probably will just pay £100 to move it to next sept nearer to the time! Got my visa granted just need to sort out insurance and I'm set to go!! My plans are to work in Sydney until new year and then go for a travel and try and fit the 3 months farm work in somewhere along the way
So excited!! Add me on fb if you want to have a little chat anyways
