You want to travel? How do you find the friends for it?

Hey - I like the idea of travelling and although I'm quite independent I don't like the idea of doing it alone. I think it's because I recently went abroad alone to work for a short time and I found it really lonely. This is coming from the guy that can get on with almost anyone...

I'm travelling alone atm, I'm in St Petersburg, Russia. If you're friendly, you'll find people and they'll talk some places are better than others. I talk to people when I'm home (London) or abroad.

Hi Stephen

I'm travelling alone too - from what I've read a lot of people are!

Have you got any solid plans? It's super easy to meet people there - hostels are your best bet as everyone just talks to everyone!

Hello, thanks for the replies! Beth I take it you're out there now? How much money did you guys go out with?

No, plans what so ever, just want to kind of get to grips with the idea. Like you don't have a plan do you? It's just going with the flow lol

I'm not there now but when I went to Berlin a few months ago me and my friends stayed in a hostel, and even though there was 6 of us everyone was so friendly and we ended up going on a pub crawl with a load of people we met!

I am hoping to have about £3000 when I go, more would be perfect but I'm not crying too much about it because I figure when I start to struggle that's when I'll settle for a job.

Definitely can't make too many plans but honestly don't worry about travelling alone, you will meet so many people in the same boat!

Hi Stephen

I am also thinking of travelling alone. Have waited for the past 6 years to go travelling to varies different places with varies friends but someone has always let me down at the last minute and I haven't went (plus spent the money I saved!) Iv now decided to just man up and go myself. Thinking Oz next September, I am genuinely terrified of going but think it will be so worth it in the end.

Although finding a travelling friend would always be good! lol!

Amy

hi guys

I am also thinking travelling from quite a time . . .but plans always gets screwed up because of conflict of intrests among my friends . . .so i thought that widening my horizon might help !!!

Y'all are going to find this hard to believe, but honestly, you guys are worrying about nothing.

I know it seems intimidating to travel on your own, but you're wrong. All you have to do is choose a destination that has a decent backpacker infrastructure and you'll meet COUNTLESS other first time travellers, just like yourselves. It's super simple to meet like minded travellers who are just as nervous about being alone on the road.

Get out there and just do it. In no time at all you'll be looking back at these posts and chuckling. Trust me.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

hi terry

It's just that i have never travelled alone so have some safety issues in mind and don't wana pose as alone prey to local ones .

Being in a group doesn't automatically make you more safe. Using common sense and street smarts is what keeps you safe.

The first bit of common sense to apply is to choose an appropriate destination for a first time traveller.

Cheers,
Terry
