Gift for a Japanese friend

I am meeting a Japanese (female) friend in Tokyo in a couple of weeks and she will be showing me around the city for the day. I would like to take her a gift from the UK - can anyone advise what kind of thing would be customary/appropriate?

Something that says England or Britain but is not tourist tat.

Agreed. Anything uniquely British would be greatly appreciated.
If you were going to their home, a sampling of local food or lollies/sweeties/candy would be well received but for a city meetup I would suggest a small toy or functional keepsake. Don't worry about the toy option too much; toys are generally well-received regardless of the recipient's age.

Thanks both of you. I'm in London this weekend so I might pop into Harrods and see what they've got.

According to my knowledge, books or flowers are best gift for a female friend. Try some these kind of things.

Give her to konpeitou as a gift.. I am sure she like it. konpeitou is Japanese traditional candy. Another idea to give him homemade gift , It also a nice idea to give surprise.
