Are the databases for the maps and photos identical?
I created my map for my recent trip to Java and tried to enter as a stop Borobudur. The only options were a shopping centre somewhere in Jakarta. I had to use the local town of Magelang (info per map = Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia).

Did you map your location as 'Magelang' and your photos 'Borobudur'..?
In my experience the two map-locations need to be identical for the photos to show up on your map...

That's what I had to do as the Borobudur photo location does not exist as a map location. The photos seem to have linked correctly on the map however, although I notice that the same photos also appear on locations nearby.

Hmm.. That does sound a bit odd... I've always figured that the destinations and maps would be linked.... I think we need someone with more expertise than me... Admins?
I think the reason for the photos to appear on locations nearby is because of the date... As the the photos is dated to the 17th and that includes both stays in Yogyakarta and the trip to Magelang...
You can avoid this by dating like this:
Yogyakarta - 15th to 16th
Magelang - 17th to 17th
Yogyakarta - 18th to 19th
However your photos taking from the 15th an 16th will then only show up on your first entry for Yogyakarta... This means that if your friends click on 'Yogyakarta' on your map they'll only see the photos from the 18th and 19th as the latest entry takes priority when you click on the location...

Both the map and photo system use Google to provide the autocomplete for locations. So it should return the same results regardless of which one you're using.
However, with photos after you have entered your location accurately (you can use a street address or geo coordinates if you want to be really precise), we do another lookup and find what is called the WOEID for that location. This is done in our own database and if that fails, a call is made to Flickr which is where that dataset originates from. This is a less precise location, but serves to group things together better and it is the location displayed in your gallery for that photo (reason being we don't think it's a good idea to show actual street addresses for example).
The photos that show in the map are shown based on proximity to that map location and correlation between dates. So if the two locations are close together and the dates overlap, then yes - the photos could end up in both.
