Cambodian visa, you can generate VOA in any check point whether border crossing or airport.
Cambodia VOA, just prepare 2 photos and USD 20, about 15 - 20 minutes taking at the point.
Thailand and Cambodia has a bilateral single visa, anyway you are free visa to Thailand. So, you must generate Cambodian visa on your end.
Cross from Cambodia to Thailand, you can re-visit anytime. Meanwhile, land border crossing is 15 days free visa and 30 days free visa will be generated via int'l airports.
My below comment,
you should stay and travel over Thailand nearly to 30 days (if you come by plane) , and then heading to Angkor Wat by International bus start at Bangkok Bus Terminal (Thai call Mor Chit) at the Ground floor. Booking in advance is highly recommended due to it unfortunately will be fulled.
Price ticket: THB 750 or USD 25. Starting time: 9.00 am everyday.
Pattaya to Angkor wat (Siemriep) is also available if you need starting from there. Ticket price and schedule is no idea.
Road: Road in Thailand and the way to Siemriep is good, meanwhile from Siemriep to Phnom Penh's horrible.

I just wonder that you are in the wrong immigration gate, if you are UK passport holder. You just stand in the line of Immigration (30 - 90 days avail vary in citizens) not Visa on Arrival (15 days avail). Anyway, this point I ain't definitely sure due to I am Thai and surely I stand in the line of Thai passport.

I checked with a visa website and as a holder of a British Virgin Island passport, will need to buy a visa to Thailand. UK passport holders get a free 30 day visa waiver when flying into BKK. My advice will now depend on which passport you hold. Since you invalidate your Tland visa (free or paid) as soon as you cross a Thai border, I think you need to re-think your plans if using a BVI passport. Spend as much time in Tland as you want before crossing into Cambodia. Why buy a 30 day Tland visa and void it after 2 days? If you are using a UK passport, then voiding a free 30 visa waiver makes sense. You will get a 15 day visa waiver when crossing back into Tland via road.
Cambodia requires visa photos no matter if air or land arrival. Have 6 photos with you before you start your adventure. I see you are planning on entering Tland via road after Siem Reap. Read about here. You will again have to buy a 30 day visa to Tland if using a BVI passport. Many countries get a free 15 visa waiver when entering Tland via road. You won't if using a BVI. While in PP, go over and the UK Embassy and see what they advise. You may have to buy another 30 day visa to enter Tland. Good luck.

As a UK citizen you won't have to bother for a visa as you are allowed to stay 30days max. with a visa exemption.
As soon as you come back to thailand you will have a new visa exemption.. If coming back by land (bus, train, bike) you'll get 15 days allowed. If by plane 30 new days.. So no visa, no charges..
For cambodia however its different, and it was previously mentionned: passport photos and about 20USD to get a visa (no visa exemption there).
You're probably already back home but that might help others
