When you in Brisbane until I get there the 30th of November I can't wait will get there in the morning about 10ish so hopefully be able to get right into the swing of things like job hunting and getting my bearings
Hey guys im not going to be in Brissy any time soon but i did live there for about two years. I wanted to share that the best way to find work quick is through Pinnacle Temp Agency. It is mostly hospitality and it helps to attain your RSA or RSL license (cant remember exactly) Responsible Sales of Liquor or Alcohol (a quick google search will fix this question up). I worked at many plush clubs, venues, concerts (even the Wiggles), The Australian Opens of Tennis, mobile bar tending, the Sofitel Hotel, and a really nice place in Fortitude Valley called Hotel Bravo. You can bounce around different jobs until you impress an Ozzy boss enough to hire you full time. Thats what I did. Pay was ranging from $17 ph to $25 depending on the job. You also need to attain your Tax ID # and dont forget that when you leave you can apply to get your super annuation back once you leave the country (kind of like social security you have to pay out of your check) dont expect to get rich because the Oz govt. taxes tourist on Work and Holiday visas heavy about 40% but you can live comfortably and happy with your pay if you dont booze too much or smoke cigarettes for that matter. I really enjoyed Paddington, Kangaroo Point, or Carindale area outside the CBD. It is pricey but if you make some good local mates then they usually are open to renting rooms for cheap to tourist. I'm in the same boat (ish) except I didn't give myself a lot of time to plan everything. I'll be landing into Brisbane this Saturday and trying to work things out from then! Think I'll give myself about a week in Brisbane to try and get used to the fact I'm on the other side of the world :P
My vague plan is to go to Cairnes and work my way down coast towards Melbourne (I'd love to be in Sydney for NYE).

If you end up staying for 6+ months, and living in a regular appartment (i.e. not a hostel) during the time you work, and also become part of the social life of the place you live in (as easy as going to the movies or the gym), you can self-declare as a resident for tax purposes, and will be charged at the same tax rate as residents.
See , or take . (For example, if I fill in: not migrating, not Australian, six months or more, not in the same place, holidaying/casual employment, renting or leasing accommodation, no spouse/children, majority assets in Australia, no clubs - then the tool tells me I'm a resident for tax purposes. That's only two traits of a resident, and that's already enough to qualify.)
Non-residents pay 32.5% tax over all income (up to 80k); residents pay nothing over the first $18k, and only 19% over 18k-37k. ()
FWIW, knowing about this is probably what allows most tax back companies to get people back so much money. But you can just do this yourself, and not pay anyone for it.

Nice facts! I knew there was a way around the heavy taxing I was just too unsure the first year I was in Oz if I was to stay long enough to worry about it. I ended up doing sub 801 visa with my partner and that was that, resident. I remember doing my own paper work to get the super etc. back was a nice little surprise. Cheers
