What to visit in Lisbon??

Hey friends!

First thing you do is buy a Lisbon Card. This allows you to hop on and off all of the cities transport and gives you discounts to city museums etc.

Take Tram No 28 to get a good view of the city, just hop on and off where you feel like it. Don't worry there will be another along shortly or just cross the road to get the tram back where you came from.

Travel out to Belem and visit the museums and old buildings there like the Jeronimos Monastery with the tomb of Vasco de Gama. Then there's Belem Tower - a must photograph opportunity.

In the old quarter visit St. George's Castle and take a view of the whole city. If that's not your thing then the Aquarium at Parque de Nacoes will fill an afternoon, also the cable car ride along the waterfront in the same area is another great way to view the city.

For nightlife take the Funicular rail carriage 'Gloria' from Restauradores square - opposite the hard rock cafe. When you get off the 'Gloria' turn right and follow the road to the end then around to the left until you get to a bar named the Pavilhao Chinese. It's not a great place for a night out, but as a spectacle it's unmissable. The whole place is like a museum of really weird collections. After that go back to where you got off 'Gloria' and head into the Barrio Alto. If you like music, drinking and partying this is the place to be. Don't go before 10pm as things only start to happen here from then and even later. There's bars where you'll hear music from Brazil, Cuba, Argentina, Angola, Morocco and everywhere else in between. If the Barrio Alto isn't late enough for you try the Night Clubs down at the docks in Alcantara.

Don't miss a night of Fado - Portugal's musical identity - one of the best places as a tourist is to visit the Club de Fado in the Alfama district.

That's quite a bit to get through I guess. So, enjoy and plan well. Lisbon is my favourite city in Europe becuase you never know what you'll find.

One more thing, if you're in the city on tuesday or saturday visit the Feira da Ladra (the thieves market) in Alfama. It's an outdoor flea market and a great place to pick up unique souvenirs.

Enjoy!
