I might be going to Vietnam for three weeks in November, I was wondering if anyone knew of stuff to see or do in the country. Places to go, food to eat. Anything you know about the country.

I was there at the end of October... it's amazing! I went to Saigon, Hue, and Hoi An. If you're interested in any of these places, I highly suggest them because I had an amazing time.
For food try banana pancakes... they're unlike any other pancakes you've had before, and they're so, so good. Also pho. Make sure you double check prices before you order, some friends and I got completely screwed at a food stand because we didn't ask before hand.
If you go to Hoi An make sure to spend a night at Hoa's place on China Beach. It's a homestay type place which offers amazing home cooked food, and every night they offer "family dinner", where for really cheap you eat ENDLESS food with other people staying at the hotel. I was only there one night but it was one of the best nights of my trip, I met some really cool fellow travelers, and talking to Hoa was awesome, he's one of the funniest dude's you'll ever meet.
Make sure to get custom made stuff! I got a dress, a pair of pants, and a jacket for less than $100, all completely made to what I wanted and in about 24 hours. Check out a few places before deciding where you'll go, and always ask for double stitching (doesn't cost extra, but makes everything last longer)
If you're up for it, I suggest renting a vespa type scooter. Most people use it to travel around, and driving doesn't seem terrible. And if you do that you might be able to offer other travelers a ride for a dollar or so, and you can meet cool people that way!
In Saigon you have to check out the war remnants museum. It's really difficult to get through, but it's a great experience. And there's a nearby orphanage for children who have been affected by agent orange... I'm not sure the name of it, but if you ask around you might be able to find it. I went there for an hour and played with some of the kids, and although it was one of the saddest hours of my life, I'm really glad I did it.

I don't know if you are arriving in HCM or HAN. I will assume HAN and give you a few ideas. I would take a tour with Free, just pay entrance fees & food. You get to tour with a local VN student that wants to improve their English and show you their city. A win, win IMO. I would stay in the when in HaNoi. Many restaurants, sightseeing within walking distance. is worth seeing IMO. Perhaps you could treat your tour guide to the show. Always more fun to have someone to share the experience. You will spend at 3-4 days in HAN and surrounding area. HaLong Bay, Perfume Pagoda, craft villages outside the city are worth your time IMO.
Then you can either take the train, bus or fly south. Most go to Hue, then DaNang, then Hoi An. was the Imperial Capital and has plenty to see. Worth a few days IMO. Tours to the Royal Tombs are available, by boat, van or I went on a , but you may prefer . DaNang is just another city IMO, is why most go. I would wait until you are in before going to the beach. is an easy moto or bike ride from downtown Hoi An. As mentioned, many visitors like Hoi An because of the Dozens to pick from if you want custom made clothes. Do some research if you are interested. Some shops are better than others. It can get ugly very quickly if you do not like the quality or fit of your custom clothes. Cham ruins are just outside the city. Come back via boat if you go.
After Hoi An, you can take on overnight bus or train to Nha Trang. Very good beach, swimming, bay tour, Cham Ruins, NT will keep you busy for a few days. You can vote for more beach time at Mui Ne, or head to cool, green If you are pressed for time, I would choose DaLat over MN. From either city, you are an easy bus ride to HCMC. Plenty to see/do in HCM as well. Delta tours, tunnels, city tours. Fly back to HAN if your flight home is from there. and can get you back to HAN.

I'll be there also in November - for the 5th time. You need to read the info over on - best site for that part of the world. I prefer the North, and this next trip I'll also be spending time in Bangkok and Laos. Be sure to go to Sapa - probably the most colorful place in my opinion. You do need to do a little research for Vietnam - this country has grown so fast in the past few years that there are both pluses and minuses, but one thing is for sure - the people are the real attraction. I suggest booking the free student guide services (Hanoikids, Danangkids (for Hoi An) and Saigonhotpot) - they do it free because they want to improve their English - each has their own website with info.
