joel1983 has indicated that this thread is about South America
Big cities in Central America and some parts of South America can be very dangerous. There are guns and men who use them. Outside of the big cities it is not such a problem. Hostels are the cheapest places to stay and the bus and train travel are cheap. you do need to be careful re: food and water and should bring precautionary antibiotics like ciproflaxin for when you get dysentery. Do not drink anything with ice in it. Make sure all food is packaged or well cooked. Argentina and Chile do not have these problems but most of the other countries we traveled to do have problems with bacteria. Guatemala is beautiful with traditional indigenous dress . Bolivia the same. Mountains are great. most people are friendly but you do have to be careful re: pick pockets as well. Asia seems a lot safer in terms of violent crimes. You will need to be more watchful in Central and South America. Have a great trip.
Hi, maybe you can travel through, Peru-Bolivia-Chile // Brazil,Argentina,
good luck
if you spend most of your time in Peru-Bolivia your money will last as it very cheap there mayber you could work there as well iv just done it all
Don't pay attention to worry warts/scare mongers with only a few dozen posts and next to nothing for first hand experience and you'll be fine.
Some bus stations can look dodgy but aren't necessarily dangerous-be sure the trunk on your cab locks if you're putting your bag in and always ask the price first before getting in.
