Getting a chinese tourist visa while on the Road

Jsibel has indicated that this thread is about China

Any Chinese embassy should be able to supply a visa, but you often drop your passport in one morning (9-12, Mon-Fri) and collect it two days later (so two days without your passport). You will need passport size photos and money for the visa. They may ask your itinerary in China so make something up. They don't check.

There is an embassy in Melbourne:

Thanks Cyberia,

We've looked into getting the Chinese Tourist visa in Melbourne, however we can't organise it here (March) when we're planning on entering China in July/Aug--it's past the 3 month mark.

While backpacking, it's going to be tough to find a city with an embassy where we can give up our passports for a few days. The only place where we were thinking would be in Phom Pen (Cambodia) or HCM (Vietnam).

But in saying that, we've heard stories that it's near impossible to organise Chinese tourist visas in these countries.

We just wanted to put it out there to the Travellerpoint community, asking if anyone has had any experience getting a Chinese Tourist visa while on the road in Southeast Asia. I think we might have to fly from Vietnam into Hong Kong and organise there.

You can definitely organize it in Hong Kong. The easiest way is to go the , a Chinese run travel agent with many branches around HK. They can sort out your visa in 4 days, or even quicker if you want to pay the extra fee. Or you can go hang out at the visa office yourself, which takes much more time standing in line, but is a little cheaper.
I can't tell you about Cambodia or Vietnam, but will you be passing through Bangkok? It was a few years ago now, but I had no problem getting on there. A quick web search suggests that the situation is still the same.

I know travelers, who got their visa in the ff:

Laos

Malaysia

Thailand

So myself and my partner are heading to China in July of this year but before we get there we will be stopping in NZ, Queensland, Singapore, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
As you can imagine the trip is in excess of 6 months with the final stop in the trip being China.
From Cambodia we were planning on traveling overland and so far have had no issues with getting visas for all the countries except for China, where we can only apply within three months of traveling there. So that then leaves us in the position of trying to get our Chinese visa in Cambodia or Vietnam but recently we have been getting different stories about the availability of getting Chinese tourist visas in Cambodia and Vietnam and we were wondering if anyone can shed any light on this for us.
Myself and My partner are traveling on Irish and American Passports and are currently based in Melbourne.

Would really appreciate some help with this one.

Thank you

Just go to the China embassy or travellong agency to apply for it.You can also call them to apply.BTW i have travelled to Asia countries for an entire year, there are nice place especially China. I found it really easy to get mine in Hong Kong as Degolasse said, through the China travel service. We paid a bit more for it to be ready in 2 days
