Hi,
Hello! I am in Melbourne at the moment and I am planning on leaving Melbourne around 29th march to start my way up the east coast and hopefully find some work along the way (probably in Sydney and Brisbane as it will be easier to find work in the larger cities)!
I am travelling by myself too as the friends I have made down here have completely different plans to me so it would be nice to meet other people to go travelling with! :-)
I am hopefully doing the Grand Prix too on the Saturday (as I am currently working)!
Let me know if you want to chat some more!
Speak soon,
Kat
Hey Angela,
i am pretty much doing the same thing, i arrive in Melbourne on the 5th March. Hopefully will stay there a while and get a job then travel east after a few months. Have you booked a hostel or anything yet?
it would be great to meet up, im travelling alone so want to meet as many people as possible :-)
Samantha
hi kat, how have you found it so far? I'm getting really excited now about going, your plans are pretty much what I'm planning on doing. Have you found it easy to get work? it be great to chat more

Hi Angela,
I love Melbourne! It is awesome here - so much to do and the weather is pretty good! Work here kind of depends really. I would suggest if you have admin experience then go for admin jobs but possibly 'add' on extra employers (e.g. worked in local office doing admin work for 4 years) as I am working in recruitment at the moment and the only way people are getting jobs here is if you have a lot of experience! But then on the other hand some people have just been in the right place at the right time and found work really quickly! The best things to do is if you are looking for call centre/ admin work then look on seek.com.au and look on gumtree (believe it or not)! or if you are looking for hospitality/ retail then walk around shops, cafes, bars and resturants and hand them out in person! Seek do have a lot of retail and hospitality work on there too so it is still worth looking on there! I don't mean to put you off but as there are still a lot of backpackers at the moment you need to show you are the best if that makes sense!
Also there is a company called Geoffery Nathan - they specialise in finding work for backpackers so i would suggest as soon as you are in Australia sign up with them straight away!
Obviously I don't know what experience you have so you could be fine without all this :-)
I want to move on to Sydney soon though as i want to follow the sun up the East Coast and apparently it is easy to find work there so I am hoping as soon as I arrive there I will be ok!
P.s. sorry for the essay but if you do want any more info then just let me know!
If you have Facebook let me know - you won't be able to find me as i have very high privacy settings on mine!!
Kat
Heyy I'm flying into Melbs on the 16th of march. No idea where I'm staying, imagine i'll be headed up the coast pretty quick. You guys will havta let me know how your hostels are!
hey Kat, thanks for the advice I'm looking at gettting job in bars and cafes. I have bar experince. Will have a look on those sites, i'm sure theres a lot of travelers trying to get the same thing. I'm Angela Jane Sizer on facebook.
Hey C_lo I booked the habitat HQ hostel last night for the first, there weren't many choice they are getting pretty booked up as the grand prix is on that week x
Hi C_lo! The best hostels (apparently) are X-Base and Habitat HQ if you come and stay in St Kilda! I would definately book up now as the Grand Prix is on between 15-18th March and apparently it gets really really busy! So if you can't get in those 2 just book anywhere until you leave! How long are you planning on staying in Melbourne for? Are you planning to work at all on your travels?
Angela - I will add you now :-)
xx
Yah I heard st.kilda is the place to be! Hopefully I'll be able to get a spot somewher. Thanks for the heads up on this car race thing, wouldnt have ever known and wasn't planning on booking ahead. Don't think I'll hang around Melbourne for too long before heading up the coast. Gonna try and hold out for as long as I can before working. But I hear money doesn't go too far in oz. When are you planning on moving up the coast?
