With effect from 1st January 2012, all Holiday or Business travelers to Sri Lanka must have Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for entering in to Sri Lanka. Please visit http://www.eta.gov.lk for more information.
So Sri Lanka is the only country in Asia with this ETA, wow... Essentially what is it? It's a Visa you buy online....
Yes ETA is a new thing which was effective from this year. It is basically an official authorization for a short visit to Sri Lanka and issued electronically. It is introduced to simplified service to those who visit Sri Lanka.
