I'm the same- friends with jobs and boyfriends so I just booked it lol. No turning back! Doing LA for a month then New Zealand for a year, but am looking at going to Austrailia for a bit whilst I'm in New Zealand around the time you've said. I would be coming from New Zealand, but up for making a plan if you didn't want to do it alone, think it would be fun!

I'm 18 and going solo too, need to get away and what's a better way than to head down under! I head out in 3 weeks time! I'm starting off in Adelaide working in a racing yard over winter then heading up to Cairns around Sept then down the East Coast for the summer. Wow ur horsey too Jenna? I'm jealous u go in three weeks! I know the need to get away feeling!! Rachael I have rough Idea would like to start in adelaide, go to kangaroo island, do great ocean raod to melbourne, then tazmania then up to sydney. Then drive in campervan up to cairnes (bondi beach, surfers paradise, fraser island, brisbane etc on way!! ) Then Alice Springs, Uluru, ayres rock then want to stop at perth and possibly thailand on way home!!
Wow thats good for someone who isnt sure!! lol No no idea when I will fly too many factor in play at the moment.

Im also planning on going to oz end of this yr/beginning of next yr. was meant to be going out in the next few months but due to finances its just not happened.
This will be my first time travelling abroad on my own as well! My mates have become boring and started to get married, have babies etc! haha! Trying to get a couple to come with me but im not holding my breath! lol!
Truthfully i havent got a clue where i want to go just know i'm going Oz for 10-12mths, New Zealand for 1mth, Fiji for about 7 days and North America for 1-2mths. what i do and where i go when im there is anyones guess! im a go with the flow kinda girl so always open to ideas. i am wanting to work whilst im in oz though.
i would defo be up for meeting up with anyone who is heading out there about the same time. probably wont be as scary if you know you're going to meet up with people you've already been chatting to.
Has anyone looked at flights, hostels etc? Not sure whether to sort everything out myself or go through a specialist company and let them arrange everything.

I've looked at flights, but not really done anything about it! Similar situation with finances!
I guess the experts might be better as they do it every day, but assuming they cost lots more??
Have you looked at prices? Hostels? I'm normally the kind of girl that takes a suitcase.... Not sure how I'd cope with a backpack... Might still take a suitcase!! Lol!!
I've got a few places I'm dying to see! 12 apostles, Sydney, beaches on the east coast and I've got to go diving on the great barrier reef! I've also got family over in Nz.
Like to think I could cope with 6 months at least, but would like to do longer if I could!

No i haven't looked at anything yet. Not sure if i can get round the world ticket prices at the mo? I've got an appointment at STA in a couple of weeks so i'll see what they say. Not too bothered about sorting the Oz, New Zealand and fiji part out myself its just the American part. I've seen on a few threads on here that you only really need to book a hostel for the 1st few nights and you shouldnt have any problem finding one after that. My mate comes back from Oz soon so i'll ask her bout it all. I'll let you know what she says.
haha i'm the same with the whole backpack sitch! i went to sheffield for one night the other day and my case was fit to burst! How do on earth do girls fit a whole years worth of belongings into one bag!? Im going to stress big time about that! lol!
Yep i defo want to do Sydney, melbourne, darwin, perth, and brisbane if i can, and i want to do all the beaches. Ayres Rock would be fab as well! Not too sure about the barrier reef! i'll get eaten by a shark knowing my luck! haha!
Well i'm praying i dont hate it and want to come back after a month! Really want to be away for the full duration and make the most of it before i have to come home and start settling down! lol!

What about vaccines? Does anyone know if you need jabs to travel around oz and Nz?
I'd like to work while im out there, luckily I can continue with my job here as I've got contacts in oz and Nz!
Yeah that's what I'm hoping too! Can't decide if I should go for 3 months or just do the year and see what happens! Don't know how I could cram all I want to see into 3 months though! And work whilst I'm there too!
Let me know what she says! I haven't saved any £ ATM for it so need to start saving really! How much you thinking of taking?
