Hey mate,

To start with £2000 is that including your plane ticket?? If you took 2k you could basically live like the king of Thailand for 3 weeks :-)

I am going in April for 4 weeks and only taking £600 this is my 3rd trip to thailand and I love it, I'm sure you will as well.

You can find some really cheap but still very nice accom options all around and yea the lonely planet guide is really good I still have my one which is prob very outdated now but still has its uses!! If it's just a tester your looking for 3 weeks sound good as it gives u enough time to see a few places and not so long that u will get sick of it!

Thailand is so easy and fun. I'm literally not booking anything for when I get there Nd I never have, never had a problem with getting any rooms.

If you are going to go to the full moon party down on Koh Phangan I reccomend that you book accommodation as it gets very very busy all over the island when it's time for the party!!

I hope some of what I've said is of any use if I can answer anything else just let me know...

Cheers buddy

Dave

From an Old Post on My Profile:

Thailand
Spent three weeks with friends in the State Dept. Bangkok, Rachamburi, Old City, Chaing Mai, Clong (canal tours), canal taxis and long tail boats. Ko Sumui Island. Sukamvit Road... really cheap tailors. silk and others. fighters, more markets. Thompson Silk. One day -- Buttefly farm, Orchid Farm, Elephant show/Ride, Silk factory, Gem factory, Temple tour, 6 part cultural show and feast $ 8.00 Great people ( Buddists), good food, inexpensive food - $ 1.25 for shrimp or pork, or chicken along with rice and stir fried vegitables. Fired insects 25 cents. not for me.

Im in Phucket right now . They say this is the most expensive place to go but i'm in the Chalong region which is pretty good for everything with all beaches near... since i am on a budget i have been staying with a thai family and a meal will cost around 130 baht depanding where you eat or what you buy... have a safe trip - Declan

Btw i have been here a week now and think 3 weeks ideal if not more hope this helps

Hey i will be going on thailand this april for 3 weeks too!
And guess what, its my first time solo and i think it would be great to meet alot of new people out there.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Dave the £2000 was for my spending money only, but now that you have said that i would like to get my flights out of it aswell, If i could spend as little as possible it would be great.

I have priced flights to Bangkok and they are around £700 for a return. Does this seem reasonable?

I would Defanatly love to go to the full moon party if i am there around the same time.

Thanks for the help

honestly mate it's so easy to get mugged off there first time. Watch out for skams in bangkok- there's a few. Tuk tuk offered to take me to my hotel ended up taking me to all these suit shops and travel agents pressuring me to buy shit- long story. but the worst I found are the travel agents. Some will try and book everything for you and rip you off, best thing to do is don't pre book- you always meet people and hear of cheap places to stay and places to go. U want to stay free and not get tied down cos you never know who you meet etc. Full moon is every 2 weeks but if u do miss it there's half moon parties, black moon parties- all good. First time i went i started in bangkok, 2 days there then ko phanang, krabi, phi phi, phuket and back to bankok all comfortably in 3 weeks. U meet people on buses, the boats in the street- really easy to meet people and buddy up.

Hey mate,

I got my flights with Thai airways (direct) for £530. Check out staTravel.co.uk

I'm not sure how much the flights will be now but also check out voucher cloud they have a voucher on there for £50 off any bookings over £500. I think u should b able to get them for quite a bit less than £700 if you don't mind stopping off on the way u can prob get them for about £470 only adds about 2 hours onto the journey :-)

How's that sound?
