Is it possible to do a driving tour round Europe, maybe something like the shortened Grand Tour version?
I have already been to London, Paris, Genevea, etc and as I have a car would like to avoid doing all the big cities due to parking (unless there are park and rides in every city?)
Also, how could I get into Venice, is there spomewhere to drop off cars beforehand?
Hi!
You right, car in the big city is a trouble. But with car you have a good chance to see many places all around. So, depends of time and budget you can have great driving tour through Europe, yes. I don't know what is a "Grand Tour", but for very briefly look of whole Europe you need years, probably whole life will be not enough. Good plan in this case means less drive (up to 100km/day) and see more + benefit of "hidden jems" - just because you are going with a car.
In Venice - you can't drive in Venice, ur going by boat or by feet there. It's big parking area at the entrance to Venice. Another option is: if you stay in one of towns nearby - you may leave the car there, near hotel - these towns are very well connected to Venice, its short (10-15 mins) bus ride and no headache. Venice is a watery place, winter can be very cold and unpleasant. Summer can be very hot and for sure overcrowded. The best time for Venice is May (April to June) and Sept. (Oct.)
