Well I've heard most people go to South Rim but I read somewhere that North Rim is much better and less crowded. Which do you think is best?

I like both the north and south rim, but as someone who has been to both, I think the rim to see first is the south rim--because at the north rim, the mountains are a bit closer and the canyon therefore is not quite as dramatic (only by a tiny bit) as at the south rim, where the mountains are at least five miles away and the canyon (all one mile straight down and ten miles across) is right there at your footsteps.

My plan is to start in LA (check out Disneyland, Universal Studios, Hollywood, Beverly Hills) for about a week followed by San Francisco (Alcatraz and Golden Gate Bridge) for a few days, Las Vegas for a week (so much to do here and so cheap! I would like to hire a car and drive to Grand Canyon while in Las Vegas and also Foster the People will be playing one night at one of the hotels), Miami if can but not essential, New York for a week. Also maybe Hawaii for a few days before flying home.
I've found flights internally are very cheap with SouthWest Airlines so plan to fly everywhere.
I have done alot of research of things to do and places to see and am very excited about this trip. I was supposed to be going with a friend who is now unable to come and I am not sure if I want to travel alone so if anyone is keen please hit me up. I am open to suggestions as my itinerary isn't fully planned/booked.
