Canada/America March/April 2012

Hey guys
A mate and myself both 25yo Aussies, are starting off with a couple of weeks on the mountains in Whistler, then back to vancouver and basically have no plans in concrete after that. Would like to know what little towns and cities would be best for us to visit. We will probably start out making our way south through seattle and ending up in los angeles (via vegas of course - thats a given), before heading west across to new orleans and back up north towards new york.
Any hidden gems that you guys know alond the way would be greately appreciated. We have a completley open book here so all suggestions would be appreciated.

It depends on what you're into but Vancouver Island is great for hiking, canoeing, kayaking wildlife etc. The ferry from Vancouver is around $15 per person without a vehicle. You could hang out in Victoria and go whale watching, trekking, etc and then take ferry from there to Seattle. Tofino is also a great place for surfing, old growth forests, long beaches and ocean sports; it's harder to get to, but it's worth it.

Because of your age, I suggest you do this trip via the college campus route (meaning going to cities with large college campuses where there will be lots of other people close to your age).

Some of the major college campuses along the way are:

University of Washington (north side of Seattle)

University of Oregon (Eugene, Oregon)

Humboldt State University (Humboldt, California--near Eugene) or else Chico State to the east (which a few years ago won Playboy's award as the "biggest party school in the US"--although I think West Virginia, Wisconsin, Arizona State, Texas and Mississippi should get honorable mention.

University of California, Davis (Davis, California --just east of Napa Valley and just west of Sacramento)

University of California, Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz, CA--a real college beach town, lots of great dance clubs downtown--such as the Red Room, Motiv, and Catalyst)

University of California, Santa Barbara (Santa Barbara--well actually Goleta just north of Santa Barbara, but all the action is on State Street in downtown Santa Barbara--which on the weekend is usually packed if the weather is good. It's best in the summer, but there might be some parties going on in the April timeframe).

University of California, Los Angeles (located in Westwood on the west side of LA between Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. It's a big party area--both weeknights, but especially weekends. P.S. This is where I got my masters' degree in business, so I know the college and local area well).

Enjoy

cheers guys! will definitely be hitting up vancouver island and some colleges. the more parties the better i think. weve just heard of a festival called coachella(which is currently sold out - will have to find some scalpers unfortunately) which we will be in mid april. Apart from that still no other plans, so your help has been greately appreciated!
