Koh Samui to Chiang Mai

Please help,

You can take the train or the sea route if you have time to spare.

Suggest your 2-3 nights at Lamai Beach (southern part of Koh Samui). Your then close to ferry departures to the mainland. Around a 1hr ride in to Surit Thani. Take an express overnight train (see Thai railway timetable website) to Bangkok. Spend the day in Bangkok and then take an express overnight train to Chiang Mai. If you decide to take the train route I would have them booked in advance through a travel agent on KP or KS.

if your in Samui head to a small hotel called "chaweng residence"...really quiet and chilled out hotel, also with private swimming pool and only 2 mins walk to the beach and main restraunts and bar area..not many people know about it as its off the main drag in chaweng,i stumbled accross it late one night when i was a little lost and never looked back!!im gonna be there for a month from 9th april onwards, love it there so much...

pretty cheap aswell, costs me 10,000 baht for a month...the girl on reception is really helpful too and theres a security guard there from 8pm onwards untill 8am in morning...definately recomend it!!!

I second the Lamai suggestion, steer well clear of Chaweng it's just awful. We spent one night there by accident and got our drinks spiked. We were very lucky that nothing worse happened.

We went to Lamai after that and spent a couple of days at the New Hut bungalows which were really cheap and lovely. They're right on the beach (and I mean ON the beach). Definitely recommend them.

Thanks for all the suggest everyone!!

With regard Lamai Beach...is there still a good atmosphere there? We are two girls, new to travelling and would be hoping to meet lots of people along our travels...will Lamai allow this when compared to Chaweng??

The input is really helping me, thanks again

Yeah I think so! We certainly did. At New Hut we met a group of 3 that we ended up travelling with for the next 2 weeks. It's quite a bit more chilled out than Chaweng but to be honest Chaweng is mainly pissed up Brits acting like complete idiots. Lamai has some bars and things but it's not quite as crazy. It's in a much, MUCH nicer location too. Samui isn't the most beautiful Thai island but Lamai is definitely the best part of it.

Hope that helps, if you want to know anything else just let me know.
