NYE in Marrakech - Morocco

Demian has indicated that this thread is about Morocco

Hi Demian,

my husband and I are now also going to be in Marrakech for New Years in a few weeks. What did you do on the night it in the end? Any restaurant you can recommend?
Anyone else have any tips?

Many thanks,

Steff

Hi Guys, There no open places to go to to celebrate NYE in Marrakech. I would recommend the below restaurants, they are pretty much the best to go to to celebrate that night:
- Bo-zin
- Jad Mahal and Silver Club afterwards
- Le Crystal and Pasha afterwards

Your itinerary sounds good. The only thing you might be missing is Draa Valley which is a must see ( from Ouarzazate to Mhamid )

Good luck

Many thanks for the tips, Sanfoula. We will check out those places online.

I have a few more questions:
We will be arriving in Marrakech on the late afternoon of Dec. 30. What is the best way to get from the airport to our Riad near the Bab Doukkala mosque?
We have planned a food tour through the souks in the afternoon of January 1 and a cooking course and some spa time on January 2. From the 4-6 of January we will be in Essaouira. Planning to travel there and back by bus with supratours.
What do you recommend for the two remaining days (December 31 and January 3)? Can we travel to Draa Valley on one of those days or does it require an overnight stay? Should we book a trip in advance or after we arrive? What are must see sights, museums and off the beaten track places in town we shouldn't miss?

Thanks in advance,

Steff

Hi Steff,
to get from the airport to your riad, you can either take a cab from the airport or pre arrange a transfer from a local agent.
Draa Valley from Marrakech requires at least 2 days. If you can't spare it, then a day trip to the Atlas Mountains would be your best option. Try a trip to Imlil village. If you want to get off the beaten track, then a 4X4 trip to the plateau of Kik and Imlil village is really worth it.
In Marrakech, you should not miss Majorelle Gardens, Ben Youssef Medersa and the museum of Marrakech.
Good luck, and enjoy Marrakech.

Hi Steff,

I see your question is taken care of by someone with far more kowledge on marrakech than me! Great!
Last year, in the end, we decided not to get tickets for any venue. In fact it was a bit more crowded than other nights on djemaa el fna, and there was some fireworks, but as it were the last days of quite an intense trip, we barely made it awake until midnight The owner of our riad was the best, he's german and non-muslim, so he brought us a bottle of champagne as a surprise, which we finished on the rooftopterrace of the riad.
We did a cookig course as well! Are you going with Souk Cuisine? It was really great! the shopping alone was already a feast, let alone the cooking. the moroccan women were really great and the dishes were phenomenal. You'll get a small recipe book, and we cooked all the dishes at least once back home since then.
Have a great time there!

Hi
Your itinerary looks good.it could be nice if you stay for an other day in merzouga. With different things to do,as taking a 4wd around the sand dunes, visit a local group of music(gnaoua music).and enjoy a Berber pizza for lunch as one of the specialities of the Sahara .
New year period is a high season of tourism here in morocco.it would be nice if you can book your restaurants in advance .
Transfer from airport to your riad : you can take a taxi to bab doukala approx:15min. Taxi cannot reach the riad,so you need a porter to take your lagguag.
Feel free to ask for any info.
