Planning a trip around Africa (exactly where and where TBD) but drive to Spain and ferry across to Morocco - then into the real trip I guess.
So anybody else interested? Made a similar trip - tips? Looking around February / March time 2016. Will be taking a jeep so room for at least one more.
Just to say am a bloke (46) perhaps on the verge of a mid lifer! Therefore sense of humour a must!!
Let me know what you think? Would also be happy to form a convoy of sorts for those thinking a similar idea??

I'm looking to leave the UK in Spring 2016 and head from Morocco down to East Africa but via West and Central Africa. Planning on leaving my job and heading off to Kenya to find work in International Development. I am 31 year old guy working for a charity in London and bored with life! Have spent a few years in East Africa before and would much rather have a bit of an adventure on my way back there rather than just fly.

I am currently going to concentrate on the world cup rugby, after which I shall be sitting down and putting together a concept level idea of whens; whats and hows etc. I am open to spring as I have not firmly laid any plans yet - but like yourself, I am tired and bored with life in the uk and as such am looking to inject a little adventure!
So . .. with that said keep tuned. If anything changes your end just let me know. I am hoping to stir up more in the way of others joining a convoy of vehicles but will action this more actively end October / November.
In the meantime - keep in touch, and I shall do the same.

I am currently on the road to Dakar in a Toyota Land Cruiser. We started three days ago from Marrakech. We're now in Icht, where surprise, surprise, there is Internet access at the Auberge Borj Biramane. It will be easier if you follow the Atlantic coast. That's where we're headed tomorrow. You'll encounter problems the further south you go in Africa. Some countries aren't advisable for travel right now. If you bring your vehicle, make sure it's in tip-top shape. Bring two spare tires. Also, try to change your oil every 4,000 instead of 5,000 miles. That's the recommendation of drivers who regularly make the trip over the desert, including ours. Make sure your shocks and springs are in good shape. When driving on sand, let some air out. Then use your air compressor to restore it once you're on hard surfaces again. Hope this helps.

I was planning a trip similar of affordable vehicles....... Not so much driving in Africa but, Trip from UK, Northern Cape, Norway, Romania, Spain then down to Morocco, down to Dakar. In the Summer of 2017.
I intend to drive home, possibly in my trusty steed that I did the in during 2014.

Some observations on our trip so far through Morocco and Western Sahara: Be prepared for police checkpoints along the way. Make sure you have your paperwork handy, including proof of insurance and driver's license, particularly when crossing borders. If you're traveling with others, prepare and photocopy a list of passengers with information contained in their passports, plus profession, date of entry, and "visa" number that's stamped in each person's passport. There were several vehicles from the UK ahead of us and they hadn't prepared such a list to hand out to police. They had to exit their vehicles and present their passports. We handed over the list, it was checked with one passport for accuracy, and we were waved on the way. No hassle.
There were several vehicles and motorbikes with European plates in the places where we've been. The ride and experiences have been spectacular, including the Plage Blache, where we drove on the beach, exiting through a river canyon into the desert, where we temporarily lost our way. A GPS helped put us back on track. Riding the dunes also were an amazing experience near Ksar Tafnidilt. We're leaving in a few hours from Tarfaya to follow old caravan routes, on our way to Mauritania, then taking a desert track to Chinguetti, the sixth holiest city in Islam. From there, it's on to Senegal and Guinea-Bissau.
