Hi - I am 31 and recently decided I would like to take 3 months out in South East Asia. Am a bit of a travel rookie generally but I do know what I like: chilled-out, classy locations with a bit of heart and soul, where I get to relax away from mad city life. That's not to say I don't want to fit in any cities at all but I don't want to stuff my itinerary with the usual thronged spots.
In Thailand I like Kanchanaburi. I hear Pai has a great scene - never made it. Some people love Chaing Mai, but it's a pretty big city. I really like Udon Thani - not a big tourist scene, but very chilled out.
Cambodia - Siem Reap is laid back, but growing. Battambang is pretty relaxed.
In Bali, Candikuning is up in the highlands - very few tourists, save the ones who drive through during the day to look at temples. Hope that helps!
