Hi there for anyone who is reading this I have been looking for about 6 months now and this is my last resort! I have been looking to go traveling to America weather it's volunteering, camps, work anything I'd like to go for about 6 months the obvious would be camp America however that's only 9 weeks although I love the idea of camp America I want to travel for longer but not alone if anyone knows of any opertunites please let me know I would be really grateful
You don't state your nationality, which is somewhat relevant, but the USA generally doesn't allow visits of longer than three months. I'm sure there are some visas which allow staying for longer, but they'll be hard to get.
Similarly, they frown upon foreigners working in the country. Things like Camp America are really the best you're going to find there, and personally I figure that that doesn't actually give you much in the way of having a real "working in the USA" experience.
Consider Canada as a main destination instead, and turn the USA into just a side trip. Canada has a much friendlier border policy and general attitude to visitors (check up on this, cause I could be wrong, but I think they by default allow for stays of up to six months for tourists), with a lot of the same culture. They also have a one year working holiday scheme (which tends to be sold out swiftly each year, but at least is possible to get).

Ditto Sander. No one can venture a guess when you don't even state your nationality, but generally you're not going to be allowed to work in the US for 6 months. You need to re-think your options.
