Hi everyone!😁
It doesn't really matter much where to start. They're both great cities which you should enjoy tremendously.
Both cities are quite expensive (with Sydney being slightly more so). Both have tons of work, but also tons of people competing for that work. Sydney has the bigger international airport, and so has even more backpackers arriving. Melbourne is frequently declared one of the most "liveable" cities, with superb infrastructure and a very friendly environment. I personally love the music scene in Melbourne. Sydney has the more appealing attractions and sights, though, and (outside of the insane peak summer heat) a slight edge in weather conditions.
For both places I'd recommend not lingering in the city for too long. Go out and explore the rest of the country before settling down somewhere to work.
Thank you! That's really helpful to know. I'll defiantly travel around and make the most of it when I'm there, I'm very much looking forward to it!
Hey guys!!
I'm victoria I'm 26 also travelling to oz in Feb. I'm travelling with an old school friend and we've booked a camper to drive down the east coast. We're starting off in cairns and stopping in Sydney. We're doing that over 6weeks, I'll be returning home afterwards to plan more travels but my friend will be staying out there to do working visa. It'll be nice to meet people along the drive if anyone has the same ideas or would like to meet along the way. 😊
Hey.
I'm also travelling in Feb, flying out to Perth on the 17th from Manchester. Looking to travel up the east coast city to city.
Not booking any packages, looking to do it off the cuff and explore as you don't know how long you want to stay at a certain place.

Hey!
I'm keith, 22 form Hong Kong. I'm going to Melbourne in early Feb on my own too! Actually I have a friend living in Melbourne and like what sander said, she comments Melbourne as a "liveable city" when comparing with Sydney.
But I'm not going to stay in Mel for the whole year, really looking forward to explore the amazing oz and meet people from anywhere!
