Travelling Australia summer 2016 (WHV)

Hi!
I'm in the early stages of planning for Australia, I have my WHV sorted but haven't really made a decision about what date I want to go, I'm thinking June-early September. I was supposed to be doing this with my friend but he changed his mind I know I want to start off in Melbourne and make my way up&around but other than that I don't really have a planned trip.
Soooo now I'm travelling alone and I'm sh*t scared! I've never done anything like this so I have no idea what to expect! If anyone is planning on going around that time, is also travelling alone and slightly petrified, maybe you would want to meet up while in Australia?

Hey there!

I'd recommend starting somewhere up north if you're coming in June. Melbs is pretty cold in the winter! Other than that, you'll have a great time! Be sure to apply for your WHV before this coming June so you don't end up paying next year's price (FY ends June 30th - prices go up then!)'

Hope that helps!

Hi! I'd recommend doing a work package tour so you can meet people that way in your first week.

I'm doing the "ultimate oz" but there is other ones like " oz intro " which consists of an airport transfer then a week of trips and accommodation with help with getting a job for a year from them.

That way you have a bit more support and will meet people from that who you could potentially travel with.

I'm traveling alone and doing it this way... The time you're going is going to be fairly cold in Melbourne though! I'd recommend going further up north.

Hi, what's in the ultimate oz package? I never even thought of doing that haha🙈 it's seems like a good idea. I knowwww, I'm kinda determined to be in Sydney for New Years though so I might just brave the chill!

Just to offer another perspective - I don't usually recommend the work package tours. They are a good fit for some people, and to each their own, but...

  • the people you're meeting aren't necessarily connected to the things you want to get connected to (work!)
  • I don't think it's great value. Well, actually, it's not bad value. But I don't think it's a great idea to start off your working holiday by spending a ton of money (unless you have lots of money to spend!)
  • if you're an extrovert and love people and partying, then a week of flat-out activities can be a great way to celebrate arriving in a country. But also incredibly overwhelming if you're not an extrovert.

Consider doing a work exchange to get to know locals (see #7 )

Hope that helps!

p.s. - sorry just realized that you've already organized your visa, so sorry about the unnecessary previous advice.

Ah okay, lots to think about! No worries haha, and thank you!

This is the package, Ive had friends who have done it before and highly recommended it. Also there is videos on youtube of people who have done it and seemed to have a great time.

Hi! I'm thinking of doing OZintro either last week of aug or first week of septemeber 2016 I have a few friends that went this year and absolutely loved it and as ill be travelling alone id rather spend my first week out there with others in a similar situation.

Already booked my visa, and have no plans after ozintro! (although was considering heading to Melbourne for a few months then bk to sydney for New years, then up the east coast, but is just an idea lol)

Im so excited!

Hey I am planning on going to auz next sept. I have no plans yet but have considered the ultimate oz so I meet people. I am coming alone, so pretty scared but so excited!
