Traveling from Scotland to newyork with criminal record?

Never been outside the EU but was wanting to travel to the US possibly Newyork on holiday in the coming year or so, my question is would I be allowed into the US if I have a criminal record?
I've been charged with possession of a knife and vandalism being what I would say the worst ones, (stupid part of my life that's over)

As i understand it, a Brit holidaying in the usa can get an ESTA visa waiver to allow you in. They ask you about criminal record, both on esta questions and maybe in person on arrival, but have no access to uk criminal records. So if you don't tell them, they won't know. If you admit to "crimes of moral turpitude" they may well refuse you entry.

That would mean that anyone could go on holiday to the US no matter what their history?
something tells me that's not how it works but I'll look into it, thanks.

You may find this other thread informative then.

That's exactly how it works - for a Tourist visit. A Work Permit is an entirely different situation.

Cheers,
