Hi,
The fast boat can be wet (and spine crunching if you're seated near the front), the slow boat can be packed really tight with people, cows, etc. If you're not into crappy bathrooms don't even consider it.
Blufields is fine during the festival, lots of people and police in the streets. Use lots of the usual common sense and street smarts though, same as almost anywhere in Central America.
