Hello!!
First of all, let me introduce myself . My name is Patricia, from Spain, and I am 20 years old.
This summer I am going to Korea, were I will stay for 5 weeks more or less.
I will stay in Busan for a 3 weeks and then I think I will visit Jeju and Seoul. (please let me know places you recommend me to visit! ^^)
Hi Patricia,
I am not sure how much time you would like to spend in the other country, but if I were you I would just stay in Korea and try to fully enjoy it.
If you are planning just a short side trip - I think I would go to Tokyo or Osaka in Japan or try to visit Beijing in China. Whichever makes sense in terms of the cost of flight. Of course, none of these places would give a really good picture about the whole of Japan or China (they are huge countries, China is very diverse) but will give you a bit of taste. And you can still compare them with your experiences in Korea.
South-East Asia would be too far (imagine London-New York distance), I would go there only on a separate trip.
Have a very nice time in Korea!
Try to drop by in Singapore.. That's actually not so far from South Korea. About 6 hrs 30 min on a non-stop flight from Incheon (Seoul) to Singapore. I suggested this place because it is a bit easy to go around in Singapore especially if you're a first time traveler. English speakers are everywhere and its easy to go around the city.
And by the way, you might have a hard time going around places outside Seoul if you do not speak Korean. There are not so many English speakers outside the cities but transportation via train have English translations. Traveling in Japan is somewhat like to Korea. But I think Japan's transportation outside the cities is a bit more tourist-friendly than in Korea. Thailand is a lot tourist convenient as long as you stay in major destinations. And I agree that China is another thing. It's so big. But if you would only be going to Beijing, i think there wouldn't be a problem. These places are actually a short trip away from each other if you have a good plan on where to go first and next. Planning would save you miles. See maps.google.com/
I suggest you plan your itinerary ahead and book some flights and accommodations ahead. There are lots of online booking available.
East and Southeast Asia is awesome..Enjoy!
There are ferries from South Korea to Dalian and Qingdao, China. The ferry trip itself is quite nice- relaxing and cheaper than a flight (at least, it used to be. Not sure about now). Dalian and Qingdao are interesting cities to visit and from there you can go on to Beijing or other places in China. You can also get ferries to Japan from Busan.
Many Koreans speak English (much more so than in Japan or China) so communication shouldn't be a problem, if you don't speak Korean.
