Pulau Perhentian or langkawi? advice please!

Hey everyone,
Am heading to Malaysia in July and have a few days to kill at one of these beach resorts. Just wondering which one you guys would recommend and which one would have the better weather at that time of year? Any help much appreciated.

Hmph, Langkawi has cheap chocolates and booze, beach is not that pretty/clean, but you can pay about RM200/50 Euro pp to go to Pulau Payar from Langkawi for a day trip, Payar's water is crystal clear..

Cant comment about Perhentian, never been there..

Another two beaches worth checking out, Redang and Mabul, more expensive though, and they limit the number of tourists that can visit each day. About RM2,000 for a 3D2N with diving..

Ah, i saw this on another guy's comment just FYI..

"Mostly the Perhentians is just about relaxing on the beach, they are very small islands but there is excellent snorkelling (some of the best we have experienced) where you will see a lot of big fish, reef sharks, huge turtles. The beach is far nicer than Langkawi's and in August it's much better weather on the east coast Perhentians than the west coast (which is in the rainy season).

Langkawi is excellent for exploring and activities, it's almost the complete opposite of the Perhentians - you can hire a car or a bike there are waterfalls, cable car with viewpoint and lots of other things."

I've been to Langkawi years back, Langkawi is a place where you can found lots of fun..including watching sunrise and sunset at Chenang, apart from that you can try island hopping activities where you will go to 3 different island, Pantai beras basah ( this island is full of activities including snorkeling, banana boating, jet skiing, parachute, and lots more), Pulau Lang tengah (you can fed the eagle),Pulau Dayang Bunting ( you can swim here without safety jacket as this lake will let you floating, try fish therapies too!!) you can ride on cable car and see whole Langkawi island. Langkawi also have underwater world where you can see lots of aquamarine species plus penguin, you also can enjoy shopping as Langkawi is a free duty island. Besides you can visit to one of historical/legend of Langkawi island call Mahsuri tomb, here you can watch Langkawi history, you also can watch local people making some of our traditional cuisine.. if you know our fourth Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, you also can visit his museum there at Langkawi. On top of that you can visit some traditional factory that produce 'minyak gamat' (traditional medicine) and see the process of making it..Langkawi also have Crystal factory and they can show you the process to do crystal..
i hope my information can help you to make a choice, by the way sorry i never been to Perhentian Island, but my friend told me that perhentian island is more on relaxing, not so much activities you can do especially if raining.. Advance warm welcoming to Malaysia! enjoy your time here!!!

I was in the Perhentian's and it was incredible... we stayed on 'Small Island' - crystal blue waters, great snorkelling, diving, excursions. Haven't been to Langkawi though so can't comment.

As a Malaysian, I'd recommend Redang Island to my friends for something more casual... but if you want something more exclusive, i'd say ...
