hi
im planning to drive from le havre to cahors mid august time, dont really want to use toll roads, so any tried and tested routes would be welcome, also its the first time iv driven in europe for many years.
many thanks
I went that way a few years back. Le Mans, Tours, Poitiers, Limoges, Cahors.
Toll roads are expensive in France but they get you from A to B quickly. Without them you are going to be driving through endless small towns, stuck in queues of traffic, endless red lights, and this will be made worse because it is in August where the roads will be full of holiday traffic.
A journey you could easily do in a day on toll roads could lead you into spending a night's accommodation somewhere if you go by secondary roads, as it can take so long, which would then cost you as though you had spent the money on toll roads. It would help if you drove all night, with less traffic anywhere.
I am travelling down south to the Costa del Sol maybe in September and will just accept the fortune I pay in French and Spanish tolls as part of the trip.
thanks for taking the time to reply, i think it gonna have to be the toll roads as you say why turn 8-10hrs driving into maybe 20hrs,
thanks again.
