I am heading to Thailand in September this year....My route at the moment (all overland) is as follows.... maybe it will give you a few ideas?
So I fly to Bangkok, then I am travelling North of Thailand. Once I get to the border I am going over to Loas for a while. From Loas I will travel into Vietnam (this is the only place I will have to get a visa before I leave, so if you do look at going to Vietnam, check on whether you need a visa before too.) From Vietnam I will cross over to Cambodia, Through Cambodia and back to Bangkok.
From Bangkok I will travel south to the beaches!! Then through Malaysia and onto Singapore.
I am doing this over 3-4 months, but you could definately do it shorter. I know you havn't mentioned all these places, but as you "see as many places as you can" this is definately worth considering as they all border with each other and seem pretty easy to travel to.
