Thailand July - Sept 2011, Need buddies!

My name is Jack I'm 22 from the UK and looking for ppl to join up with to travel around Thailand.

Hi Jack,

I am heading out too around that time and also solo. I haven't had too much progress on my route yet... still working on it. As you have been there before, what places do you recommend seeing etc? I was hoping to meet up with travel companions for the first couple of weeks until I get my bearings about me. Did you find that you bumped into some of the same people travelling?? I will be travelling around SE Asia for four or five months, probably not the person you're looking for as I will be taking my time, but it would be great if you could recommend places etc

Thanks

Ker

Hi Ker,

Yes, for a country so big, it's suprising how often you'll bump into people that you met previously!

Meeting people is really easy though, so there's no need to worry there!

As for things to do and places to go, I'll give you some of my "Must Do's"

I assume you're starting your traveling in Bangkok. There are loads and loads of amazing temples around the city that are worth visiting. Also, about an hour North of the capital is the Tiger Temple, where you can feed baby tigers and walk and groom the adults along side the monks. It's an amazing experience it and would recommend this to anyone!

Chang- Mai is also a great place to visit. It's a northen city, set into the edge of the rain forest. You can do all sorts there such as Jungle Treking, playing with elephants and exploring remote tribes.

If you're more of a beach going person, you HAVE to visit Koh Phi Phi. It's honestly the greatest place I have ever been to. It's a small tropical island, with no motorised vehicles. Great for perfect unspoilt beaches, diving, cheap food and drink and general relaxation. It's also 20 mins boat ride from Maya Bay (The beach where the film The Beach was filmed). You can opt to stay overnight at Mayabay for around £20, it's pretty magical.

If you're visiting Laos as well, I would recommend going Tubing in Vang Vieng. It's a small village located literally in the middle of the rain forest. It's a tourist hotspot for the younger travellers and offers a huge party culture.

There are so many things to do around South East Asia, I can't really put it all into writing. What you will find is that there are tourist offices located everywhere across every town that can help you organise amazing trips and experiences/activities and all of your transport etc.

Ever thought about being a travel guide??? You make it all sound great!! Thank you for taking the time to write all that. I am looking through some guides at the moment (lonely planet) to see if I can plan my route, not strictly, just rather know where I am going as opposed to seeking that information when I am out there. As for meeting people and bumping into the same people... very comforting. I will check out all of the above, although, I will probably do all of the above because it sounds great. Who knows, we might bump into each other on the way. Hope you find people to travel with, although judging by what you were saying about meeting people, I'd say its not that high on your priority list.
Good luck with your trip, Bon Voyage

Hello All,

Congrats on your voyages to Thailand, I know you'll have an amazing time in the land of smiles. I've noticed no one has mentioned the best Island of them all and a Thailand must see - Phuket! Amazing Beaches around the Island, best nightlife in the world, and amazing adventures. I'm currently living in Patong Beach, and just started a tour company. Shoot me a message on facebook for more details - Joel Chavarria (cartoon mexican super hero pic). Let me know if any of you are planning on making your way down here. Safe travels.

Joel
