Hi everyone, I'm spending the next 6 weeks in Bali and perhaps other islands in the indo chain .
I'm primarily surfing but would do other activities, diving, hiking , biking etc

I found a week in Bali ample. Take the ferry east to Java and maybe onto Sumatra and see the real Indonesia rather than just another tourist resort.

Bali is awesome. I met 2 or 3 people there that loved it so much they rented houses for the year.
If you want to meet someone I'd suggest staying in Kuta for a few days. If you are adventurous, rent yourself a motorbike park up outside a Kuta bar, and the girls will come flocking to hang out with you!
I rode from Kuta to Ubud, a really lovely artsy town, nestled among forests, hills and paddy fields. That stretch is pretty crowded and will give you quite a rush riding in the traffic. It took me nearly 3 hours to do it the first time, after getting constantly lost, but by the end of my trip I had it down to 30 mins and was beating the locals!
If you want a good rental place try Ketut at Covex's Shop on Poppies 1 in Kuta. Poppies 1 is a small alley just up from the main beach with some good bars and guest houses.

If you're into diving, put Aceh on your list.
For hiking, I recommended Mt. Sibayak and Sinabung also.
