Traveling alone without a plan trip - does it work?

cacauonthego has indicated that this thread is about Europe

If you don't choose the summer holidays, accommodation and travel is easy to do as you go. Book accommodation for your first few nights in Berlin or Amsterdam and then you can decide from there.

You can often buy train tickets online beforehand, or get a rail pass (quite expensive unless you are doing lots of travelling over a short time).

People do trips like this all the time, so nothing to stop you doing it too. Just use a little common sense in strange places.

Use tourist offices, pick up maps and ask them what there is to see.

I wouldn't second such a travel, especially when travelling alone. Its best to plan your travel so you can make the most out of your limited travel budget and time, and you wouldnt want to miss out on some nice plaace just because you didnt have enough time left or was unaware of its existence now would you?

Well I suggest you to continue for your trip because most of the trips are planned sudden but be careful if you don't understand if you stuck somewhere ask someone or go for the Travel help centers.

Thank you everyone!!!

Hi,

Firstly, enjoy your trip

Yes, thousands of people have done such trips before, and it is perfectly easy to do. You have maximum flexibility, and can make up your route as you go along, which is the best possible adventure to have. I will let others suggest routes, places to visit and other advice, and just make one note:

Be aware that turning up at railway stations to buy tickets is *significantly* more expensive than buying in advance. To take one example, at this very moment I am on a night train from Copenhagen to Cologne. I make this trip often, and in this case booked my ticket 1 month ago, and it cost me 39euros. If i wanted just a seat, it was 29 euros. If i had turned up at the station and paid, however, it would have cost me about 150euros, and might have been sold out.

If you plan to make lots of journeys, one option is to buy a rail pass (there are many, depending upon your nationality). Depending which you chose, you will still have flexibility of choice, but will save lots in travel costs. You will still need reservations for many night trains or long distance trains (not all - it varies country to country), but it will still save potentially you lots of money.

Best wishes, and good luck

Obrigada pela dica Gelli! Foi realmente muito boa!
Eu vou comprar o inter rail, com 10 dias de flexi. Vai valer a pena

Just buy a train pass to cover the countries you're interested in, and go. I've done the very same thing, but many years ago (when it was considerably cheaper, to say the least). I do recommend traveling off season - fall or spring are both very comfortable and fairly uncrowded times to see Europe. I think you will find Eastern Europe friendlier and far cheaper than the West.
