1. Aside from Hanoi, I'd also like to go to Halong and Hue if possible. I'm not planning to swim or snorkel in Halong so is a daytrip possible?
Possible yes, but a day trip means like 8 hours on a bus!!!
2. What's the fastest and cheapest way to get to Hue from Hanoi and viseversa?
The bus would be cheapest, plane fastest. I would suggest the overnight train. Can't give the exact price, but it's probably about $30. to $50. depending on which one - Livitrans is the most comfortable sleeper.
3. Is it even possible to go to Hoi An in my short trip? Just hoping it's possible, but I doubt.
Yes, it's possible, but how much do you want to rush? Personally, I like Hanoi City best of all, and Hue the least. Hoi An is great for relaxation and good food - I suggest Hoi An rather than Hue for such a short trip. It can all be done - but again, how much do you want to rush. I advise Hanoi and Hoi An only for 5 days. You also have to stay flexible due to possible weather concerns - the Central Coast of VN is prone to typhoon at that time (I would say your chances of having a storm are pretty slim that late in Nov). Take the train/plane to Danang for Hoi An
