Long story short, I have lived in New Jersey my entire life, and while I love being so close to NYC, I just need to get out of here! I have this dream of moving to England after graduating college (I'll be done December 2012). I have never been there but I know a lot about British culture and I have done a lot of research and it seems like the perfect fit for me.
i am from Manchester and i am 22 a live in Stone clough just on the boarder or Grt Manchester and Bolton, i go on holiday to the states for 5 weeks in September can not wait!!!
take my advice DO not come to Manchester there is hardly any work around and prices are getting as high as down south(London)! if i was you and you think its the culture you would like in Britain! try Australia really similar culture but with more time to enjoy your self and there is loads of work!! plus the sunshine!!

I going to suggest Bristol in the south west. Like a smaller, less manic version of london. Theres a great community feel here, theres always festivals and other events going on. Its not that far from Cardiff, London, Birmingham and others. If you love art and music you'll love it.
Lived in Bristol for a long time and i can say its one of the best cities in England.
Generally speaking there's more work to be found in the South than in the North.
But you won't have to worry about where to live if you don't have an EU passport. If living in New Jersey means you are a US citizen, then you cannot simply move to England. You can come as a tourist, but for a move you'll need a work permit. You can get this if any possible employer proves that only you and nobody else from the whole EU can do this job.
In fact, I'd strongly advise you not to mention any ideas of moving when going through immigration , you'll run the risk of being sent home immediately.
I lived in Sheffield for four years and think it is a fantastic city. As MattyRex suggests, I also think Bristol is a great place to live too.

Southampton, Brighton. Near enough to London if you want the days there, but on the south coast to get that feeling too, and slightly better weather.
If you are looking for a brit experience, there are many brits in OZ and NZ and I would personally choose those over UK any day of the week. But if you have your heart set on the UK, then fair enough
Lived up north, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. My whole family is from that area.
Bleak, cold and horrible though. But lovely people.
I have a problem with there communication rest a good trip there i loved to go there again
